Fragile Flues: Conserving Allen Smelt Mills Flues at Frolar Meadows
A talk by Thomas Gledhill of Historic England
The stretch of flue at Frolar Meadows includes most of the surviving covered flue and rpeserves features not easily seen elsewhere, however parts are in a poor and deteriorating state.
Difficult decisions now need to be taken on how to preserve what can be preserved and whether parts should be dismantled. This talk will present Historic England’s approach to this problem, as well as illustrating some interesting (and puzzling) features that have recently come to light.
