Redecorating Joys . . .May 6, 2012 5:25 am Uncategorized
It’s hard to believe that it’s been seven years since Maggie Skawinski was commissioned to provide the design for redecoration of the New Hall, foyer and entrance, along with the wood trim. It was Maggie’s colour schemes which set the tone for the judges’ visit to Allendale during the 2006 Village of the Year competition . . . some of us can still remember the exclamations when they walked into the hall, “Oh, your colours are wonderful!”
In these intervening years, the hall has been heavily used, and the décor has been showing significant signs of wear and tear . . . some might have felt that the beloved building had been looking tatty and shabby.
But now, thanks to the continuing beneficence of that community-minded service organisation, the Allendale Lions, and the decorating skills of Toby Noble, coordinated by Trevor Newman, the New Hall, foyer and entrance are newly painted and fresh! Same colour scheme (it was more than any chairman’s capacity to shepherd new colours through the committee process, in advance of these important events), but vibrant freshness.
The new decoration has been particularly opportune for three successive events held over the course of the past 10 days: a large community funeral tea, a community choir workshop/concert, and a community wedding reception. The connecting word in all of these events is community, of course.
Thanks Allendale Lions, for your continuing support of the Allendale community, and a fulsome letter from our hearts will be with you for your next monthly meeting!
